The best way to learn about Norway’s history interactively is to take a day and visit the museums in Oslo.
First, visit the only preserved Viking Ship Museum and learn about Norway’s most important cultural heritage.
Second, visit the Fram Museum and learn about the stories of the Norwegian polar exploration and how they inspired the pursuit of Norway becoming a free nation from Sweden.
Third, visit Thor Heyerdahl’s Kon-Tiki Museum showing a modern-day exploration from Peru to Polynesia.
Getting there: From Oslo station, take the 30 bus to Bygdøy.
First stop: Viking Ship Museum
The Viking Ship Museum is located at Bygdøy in Oslo, Norway. It is part of the Museum of Cultural History of the University of Oslo and houses archaeological finds from Tune, Gokstad, Oseberg, and the Borre mound cemetery (Wikipedia). Closes at 4 p.m.
Address: Huk Aveny 35, 0287 Oslo
When you have seen Viking Museum, you can take Bus 30 and continue further into Bygdøy to Fram Museum.
The Fram Museum is a museum telling the story of Norwegian polar exploration. It is located on the peninsula of Bygdøy in Oslo, Norway. (Wikipedia). Closes at 5 p.m.
Address: Bygdøynesveien 39, 0286 Oslo
Right across from Fram, you will find the Kon-Tiki museum.
The Kon-Tiki Museum is a museum in the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo, Norway. It houses vessels, maps from the Kon-Tiki expedition, and a library with about 8000 books (Wikipedia). Close at 5 p.m.

Fourth Stop: Back to Akerbrygge by ferry
Right by the museum, there is the opportunity to take the ferry back to Oslo Aker Brygge, or you can take the 30 bus back to Oslo.
Fifth Stop: Dinner
When you arrive by ferry, I recommend grabbing a bite to eat at Aker Brygge. There are a plethora of options. Here is a link to the top restaurants.
If you take the bus back to Oslo Center, I would stop at Solli Plass and eat at my favorite Alex Sushi. The New York Times reviewed this a few years back as the best sushi restaurant outside Japan. It is about 15 min. walk from Aker Brygge, where the ferry docks.
